Why Visit Phuket
Phuket is Thailand's biggest island, and it has something for everyone. You can swim at a different beach every day, take a boat to islands with tall green cliffs, and watch the sun go down over the sea.
It is also very easy to visit. Phuket has its own international airport, lots of hotels for every budget, and tours that pick you up right from your door. Families, couples, friends and solo travelers all find something they like here.
Phuket is more than beaches, too. You can walk through the bright, old streets of Phuket Town, climb up to the Big Buddha, and eat fresh seafood by the water. Many people start their trip in Bangkok and then fly here to relax.
Six Essential Things to Do in Phuket
Short on time? Plan your trip around these six great experiences.
Relax on Phuket's Beaches
Phuket has more than 30 beaches. Pick busy Patong for fun, Kata and Karon for families, or quiet Nai Harn for a calm swim. The water is clearest from November to April.
Phi Phi Island Day Trip
Take a speedboat to the Phi Phi Islands to see Maya Bay, swim in Pileh Lagoon and snorkel with colorful fish. It is the most popular day trip from Phuket, so go early.
Phang Nga Bay & James Bond Island

Plan Your Visit
Best time to visit Phuket
November to April is the best time to visit Phuket. The sky is sunny, the sea is calm and boat trips run every day. May to October is the rainy season. It rains often, waves get big and some beaches put up red flags, which mean it is not safe to swim. Hotels are cheaper at this time.
Getting around Phuket
Phuket has no train or metro, so most people use Grab or Bolt apps, which show the price before you ride. Local taxis and tuk-tuks cost more, so agree on the price first. Blue songthaew buses are the cheapest way to go from Phuket Town to the beaches. If you rent a scooter, always wear a helmet.
Getting to Phuket
Phuket International Airport (HKT) is in the north of the island. Flights from Bangkok take about 1 hour 20 minutes. From the airport, a car to Patong or Kata takes about 45 to 60 minutes. You can also come by bus from Bangkok, but it takes around 12 hours.
Phuket on a budget
Phuket can be cheap or fancy — you choose. Street food and local restaurants cost very little, and guesthouses are easy to find. To save money, stay near Kata or in Phuket Town, eat where locals eat, and share boat tours with friends. Beach resorts and villas are there if you want more comfort.
Where to Stay in Phuket
Phuket is bigger than it looks, so where you stay really matters. Here is a quick guide to the best areas.
| Area | Best for | Why stay here |
|---|---|---|
| Patong | Nightlife, first-timers | Busy beach, lots of shops and restaurants, and Bangla Road at night |
| Kata & Karon | Families, couples | Wide sandy beaches, calmer feel and good surfing in the rainy season |
| Kamala | Relaxing, couples | Quiet beach, sea-view resorts and close to Patong when you want fun |
| Phuket Town | Budget, food lovers | Cheap stays, colorful Old Town streets and great local food |
| Rawai & Nai Harn | Long stays, peace and quiet | Calm beaches, seafood by the pier and close to Promthep Cape |
